great stocks under 10

Futures for U.S. markets were higher late Thursday, but they have provided little guidance to Wall Street’s performance in regular trade in the final week of the year as both the Trump and Santa rallies wilted.

Both the Dow Jones Industrials and S&P 500 were up 0.07% while Nasdaq gained 0.12% at 9:28 p.m. EST.

Investors likely won’t push the Dow over the much-sought-after 20,000 mark on the last trading day of the year Friday, but they also won’t be distracted by large government bond auctions, as they were Wednesday and Thursday. Low volumes and a dearth of news are also likely to temper any market-related fireworks.

All three indices closed lower Thursday with the Dow off 0.07%, the S&P 0.03% and Nasdaq 0.12%. Europe, by comparison, was mixed with Germany’s Dax off 0.21% and the Cac in Paris down 0.2% while London’s FTSE added 0.2%.

great stocks under 10: Constellation Brands Inc(STZ)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

A better than expected first quarter is fueling gains forConstellation Brands (STZ) on Thursday.

    Reuters

The spirits maker said it earned $1.54 a share on revenue that climbed 14.8% to $.187 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1.52 a share on revenue of $1.83 billion. Constellation also reaffirmed its full year guidance for earnings per share between $6.05 and $6.35, compared to the $6.27 consensus estimate.

Wells Fargos Bonnie Herzog reiterated an Outperform rating on the stock following the report:

Strong pricing growth and mix benefits drove 54bps gross margin and 72bps in operating margin expansion in beer resulting in a record 35.6% beer op margin.Wineshipment volumes were up a solid 4.5% with net pricing of 3.7%, both above our expectations. Mix benefits helped drive a solid 164bps of wine & spirits operating margin expansion.Overall we are encouraged by STZ’s results in both segments, as they reflect the benefits of its strategic investments and strong execution. As planned, STZ completed the next phase of its Nava brewery expansion to provide 20M hl of capacity. Outlook Maintained:Despite the earnings beat, and impressive EPS growth,STZ maintained its guidance for FY17, which we continue to believe remains very conservative, given it implies only 8.1% – 15.3% EPS growth on average for the remaining 3 quarters of the year.Bottom Line: We continue to think STZ has excellent momentum and are encouraged by this quarter’s impressiv e results. While we were somewhat disappointed that management did not raise guidance, we believe underlying trends should support strong results above the current outlook. The stock’s reaction to STZ’s earnings beat could be tempered by guidance being maintained.

The shares are up 2.4% to $163.14 in recent trading.

great stocks under 10: Liquidity Services Inc.(LQDT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Liquidity Service (LQDT) is an online auction marketplace for surplus and salvage assets. This stock closed up 14.9% at $34.44 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 1.60 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 402,622

    Volume % Change: 336%

From a technical perspective, LQDT skyrocketed higher here right off its 50-day moving average of $30.94 with strong upside volume. This move briefly saw shares of LQDT trend back above its 200-day moving average at $34.60, before it closed just below that level at $34.44. Shares of LQDT are now quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade. That trade will hit if LQDT manages to take out Monday’s intraday high of $35.21 and then once it clears some more near-term overhead resistance at $35.71 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in LQDT as long as it’s trending above $32.67 or above $31.60 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 402,622 shares. If we get that breakout soon, then LQDT will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $38 to $40.90.
