It’s important for investors to know how to invest in penny stocks safely. That’s because they’re often volatile and can sometimes be fraudulent, despite offering triple-digit returns in a matter of weeks. We’ll show you our top two strategies for finding good penny stocks to buy, plus our small-cap stock pick primed for double-digit growth this year…
Video3 Strategies for Investing in Penny Stocks
If you’re looking for proof of just how explosively profitable penny stocks are, Delcath Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: DCTH) is a perfect piece of evidence. This company saw its stock price surge from $0.02 on June 1 to $0.19 on June 26. That marked a stunning 850% gain, which happened after the company announced phase 2 trial data for its cancer drug Melphalan would be released.
But these triple-digit returns aren’t always justified by the company’s profits or business potential. For instance, Chinese energy company Hongli Clean Energy Technologies Corp. (Nasdaq: CETC) saw shares jump 144% from $1.90 to $4.63 during just the first five sessions of April.

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: QCR Holdings Inc.(QCRH)
- [By Keith Fitz-Gerald]
My favorite at the moment is QCR Holdings Inc. (NasdaqGM:QCRH).
Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Moline, IL, the bank has a strong regional lending base in Illinois and Iowa that should grow in line with the broader national economy. I particularly like the fact that the bank considers itself relationship-driven at a time when trust is in short supply.
Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: Cerner Corporation(CERN)

Cerner (CERN) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after meetings earnings forecasts but offering below-consensus guidance.
Agence France-Presse/Getty Images
Cerner dropped 4.4% to $51.50 today, while the S&P 500 rose 0.4% to 2,316.10.
SunTrust Robinson Humphrey’s Sandy Draper and team contend that “most of the bad news is already priced in.” They explain:
Although we expect this news to weigh on the stock…we think the market has remained cautious on CERN shares heading into the 4Q16 print given the uneven execution throughout 2016 and the post-election regulatory uncertainty that has broadly weighed on the HCIT space as a whole. We observe that CERN shares closed about 3% below the level they traded at this time last year, while the S&P was up over 21% in that time. The muted 12-month performance in the stock suggests the market rightly anticipated unattractive year-end results and 2017 guidance, which suggests to us that downside to CERN shares should be limited.
Cerner’s market capitalization fell to $17.5 billion today from $18.3 billion yesterday.
Barron’s Vito Racanelli recommended shares of Cerner on March 16, 2016, when the stock traded at $51.46.

Cerner (NASDAQ:CERN) had its price objective decreased by SunTrust Banks to $58.00 in a research report sent to investors on Friday, The Fly reports. SunTrust Banks also issued estimates for Cerner’s Q1 2018 earnings at $0.55 EPS, Q2 2018 earnings at $0.60 EPS, Q3 2018 earnings at $0.65 EPS and Q4 2018 earnings at $0.64 EPS.

Cerner Corp (Nasdaq: CERN) is the largest pure-play health care IT (HCIT) company in the world with clients in 30 countries and a footprint at 70 of the top 100 global health systems by patient revenue. The company is the market leader in health systems outside the United States with 28% of an otherwise fragmented market.
- [By Ben Levisohn]
Cerner (CERN) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today after thehealth care information technology company reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue.
Cernergained 7.8% to $64.75 at 5:03 p.m. today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.2% to 2,384.20.
Canaccord Genuity’s Richard Close and Brian Hoffman contend Cerner may be “rediscovered its mojo.” They explain:
We reiterate our BUY rating and raise our PT to $66 (was $59) as the company finally
appears to have provided quarterly and annual targets that it can meet. Possibly more important, analyst expectations sit near the mid-point of guidance, portending upside potential. The outlook appears solid as the company (1) rebuilds a track record of delivering on expectations, (2) reaffirmed confidence in 2017 bookings growth, and (3) has a strengthened pipeline for ITWorks and revenue cycle. CERN may have rediscovered its mojo.
Cerner’s market capitalization rose to $21.4 billion today from $19.8 billion yesterday.
Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: Panera Bread Company(PNRA)
- [By Ben Levisohn]
Keurigs plight (actually, JABs) is worsening, with the K-cup market slowing to almost no growth now, and Keurig continuing to lose own brands share. Starbucks (SBUX) echoed the notion of a K-cup market slowdown at its seminar on Wednesday (and is guiding for its [consumer packaged goods, or CPG,] growth below recent trends), but it expects to increase its share of total CPG coffee to 20% from 15%. Come early February it will be a year since the closing of the Keurig deal for JAB Holdings. The pressure on JAB is more significant if we take into account the high leverage of the deal (JAB contributed one fourth of the $12Bn price tag). It is a tough predicament. On the one hand we argue that to make that deal work, they need to buy more (own) brands either from the retail channel (that can be extended to CPG: Dunkin (DNKN)? Panera (PNRA)?), or outright buy CPG brands (like the entire Kraft Heinz portfolio, and or Tata Groups Eight OClock brand). But can/how do they fund these deals? Maybe Mars and Warren Buffett (Mars is involved in office coffee with Starbucks), private equity, and or 3G can help? While this note is not about Positive-rated Mondelez, we have mentioned before a scenario where Kraft Heinz buys Mondelez and partly funds the deal by selling its own CPG coffee business (~$3Bn we say) to JAB as well as divests the Mondelez 20% plus stakes in Keurig (North America) and Jacobs Douwe Egberts (Western Europe), which together at this stage are worth ~$7-8Bn. But, yes, JAB will need deep-pocket partners and generous lenders. Net, JAB needs to do something soon.

Cramer wanted to talk a little psychology. With its after-hours move Tuesday, Panera Bread (PNRA) is up more than 16% this week on takeover speculation. Panera is an old Action Alerts PLUS name, one the trust sold at a nice gain, too.

In late March, the company informed investors that after a two-year undertaking, it had finally removed all preservatives from its tortillas, making the Chipotle menu completely preservative-free. The company also called out competitors McDonald’s (NYSE: MCD) and Panera Bread (NASDAQ: PNRA) for marketing their menus as “natural,” as Chipotle insisted these other restaurants still use preservatives made in a lab.

In this segment fromMarket Foolery, host Chris Hill is joined by Motley Fool analystDavid Kretzmann as they break down how coffee-and-pastry focused JAB Holding Company will fit a fast casual brand into its privately held portfolio. With the acquisition, the JAB is expected to give thePanera Bread(NASDAQ:PNRA)team even more autonomy than usual.
- [By Seth McNew]
Other companies have followed suit with great success, including PaneraBread (NASDAQ:PNRA), which has focused on improving the customer experience, including via shorter wait times. Panera 2.0 was largely successful because of the company’s focus on its digital strategy and Chipotle looks to be doing the same thing.
Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: Nestl茅 S.A. (NSRGF)
- [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]
In sum, the three companies are equally valued at generous multiples. It is difficult to choose one of them based on fundamentals or valuations, but we like the strategy of Nestl茅 and P&G more than Unilever. Therefore, we recommend investing in these companies only if someone is interested in a limited but relatively safe upside potential. Good entry prices would be as follows: Nestl茅 (OTCPK:NSRGF) at CHF 70.1 or $70.1 for the ADR , P&G at $83.6 and Unilever (OTC:UNLVF) at 34.1 or $38 for the ADR (NYSE:UN).

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now: TransUnion(TRU)
- [By JJ Kinahan]
Ready To Shop? A highlight this coming week is Black Friday, and recent data hint that shoppers might be ready. A record 195.9 million consumers now have access to revolving credit such as bank-issued and private label credit cards, TransUnion (NYSE: TRU) said in a recent press release. This is the highest level of revolving credit access since TRU began measuring the variable and is greater than the 192.6 million consumers who had access to such credit products in Q3 2016. “The third quarter of 2017 exhibited a lending market that continued to operate in a stable manner, with consumers continuing to gain access to credit and take advantage of that access,” said Ezra Becker, senior vice president and head of research and consulting for TransUnion, in the press release. “However, we are beginning to see a slowdown in originations, which may be a signal of saturation in the lower-risk credit tiers and some pull-back in lender risk appetite in the higher-risk tiers.” Still, Becker predicted a “robust holiday shopping season.”
